July 2020: Korean Market Update

Korean Market Update

KAU19 prices recorded an all-time high of KRW 40,900 won in December 2019 and maintained the KRW 40,000 level for 31 consecutive trading days from March until end of April. However, the coronavirus pandemic has changed the market sentiment to a rather bleak outlook. Since then, prices began fluctuating on a weekly basis and has closed at KRW 30,800 on June 30.

The Korea Environment Corporation also released updated figures on June 24, showing that 398 companies hold around 28.75 million tons of allowances while 206 companies accounts for an estimated total deficiency of 20.69 million tons. These estimates would result in an excess of 8.06 million tons that can be supplied to the market.
