ECOEYE Participates in Uzbekistan Methane Leak Reduction Project Recognized by Global Methane Initiative (GMI) as a Case Study for Best Practices |
---|
The Global Methane Initiative (GMI) has highlighted the LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) project in Uzbekistan as an international model of best practice. This project involved ECOEYE as an investor, while GasGreen Asia and Climate Compass provided technical expertise, and in collaboration with Hududgazta’minot JSC, Uzbekistan’s national gas distribution company, a comprehensive LDAR program was implemented that identified and repaired over 55,000 methane leaks across the country’s gas pipeline network.
Since the project’s inception, over 55,000 methane leaks across Uzbekistan’s above-ground gas pipeline network have been surveyed and repaired, resulting in an annual savings of more than 400 million cubic meters of natural gas and the prevention of approximately 8 million tons of CO₂ emissions. The project also created over 200 local jobs, provided intensive training for engineers, technicians, and project managers, and delivered additional benefits including improved infrastructure and enhanced community health and safety.
The project has achieved Verra VCS registration and received a CCP rating from the IC-VCM, demonstrating high integrity and credibility, and has been recognized as a best practice contributing to Uzbekistan’s National Green Economy program and the implementation of the Global Methane Pledge. Through its participation, ECOEYE applied its greenhouse gas reduction technologies and operational expertise on-site, contributing to the successful implementation and verified outcomes of the project, supporting global climate goals and sustainable development.
